Stand Up Comedy

In stand-up comedy the comedian usually recites a fast-paced succession of humorous stories, short jokes called "bits", and one-liners, which constitute what is typically called a monologue, routine or act. Some stand-up comedians use props, music or magic tricks to enhance their acts. Stand-up comedy is often performed in comedy clubs, bars, neo-burlesques, colleges and theaters, but there are no real restrictions on where the craft can be performed. Stand-up comedy is also performed by professional comedians outside of traditional entertainment venues, such as in country clubs, at corporate events and conferences, as charity fundraising events, even in temples and churches.

Many smaller venues hold "open mic" events, where anyone can take the stage and perform for the audience, offering a way for amateur performers to hone their craft and possibly break into professionalism.

Stand-up is an art form that is openly devoted to getting immediate laughs from an audience above all else, unlike theatrical comedy which creates comedy within the structure of a play with amusing characters and situations. In stand-up comedy, feedback of the audience is instant and crucial for the comedian's act. Audiences expect a stand-up comic to provide a steady stream of laughs, and a performer is always under great pressure to deliver. This pressure can be thrilling, but also threatening. Comedic actor Will Ferrell, has called stand-up comedy "hard, lonely, and vicious".^[1]

If the performer cannot coax laughs out of the audience, the bored crowd may harass the comedian, a practice known as heckling. One hallmark of a master stand-up comedian is the ability not only to face down and silence a heckler, but to win over and entertain the rest of the crowd with a witty retort. An adept stand-up comedian will nimbly play off the mood and tastes of any particular audience, and adjust his or her routine accordingly. Heckling is viewed differently in different cultures. For example in Britain, heckling is considered to be a normal part of the stand-up experience, and is in fact actively encouraged by comedians such as Jimmy Carr.

The skills attributed to stand-up are diverse, as the stand-up comic often acts as writer, editor, performer, promoter, producer and technician for the act. Many stand-up comedians work for years to develop 45 minutes of material, and usually perform their bits repeatedly, slowly perfecting them over time.

Despite the name, stand-up comedians do not always stand up. Some will sit on a stool; Martin Mull has sometimes used an easy chair. The term "sit-down comic" is usually pejorative in nature.

While a stand-up comedy show may involve only one comedian, most shows feature a "headline" format, or a "showcase" format. A headline format typically features an opening act known as a host ormaster of ceremonies (MC) who usually warms up the crowd, makes announcements, and introduces the other performers. This is followed by one or two "middle" acts (sometimes called "featured" acts), who perform shorter 15-20 minute sets, followed by a headliner who performs for over 45 minutes (a period mandated by most headline clubs).

The "showcase" format consists of several acts who perform for roughly equal lengths of time, typical in smaller clubs such as the Comedy Cellar, or Jongleurs, or at large events where the billing of several names allows for a larger venue than the individual comedians could draw. A showcase format may still feature an MC.

United Kingdom history

The United Kingdom has a long heritage of stand-up comedy, which began in the music halls of the 18th and 19th centuries. Notable performers who rose through the twentieth century music hall circuit were Morecambe and Wise, Arthur Askey, Ken Dodd and Max Miller, who was considered to be the quintessential music-hall comedian. The heavy censorship regime of the Lord Chamberlain's Office required all comedians to submit their acts for censorship. The act would be returned with unacceptable sections underlined in blue pencil (possibly giving rise to the term "blue" for a comedian whose act is considered bawdy or smutty). The comedian was then obliged not to deviate from the act in its edited form.^[2]

At the end of World War II, many members of the Armed Forces had developed a taste for comedy (stand-up or otherwise) in wartime concert parties and moved into professional entertainment. Eric Sykes, Peter Sellers and the other Goons, and Tommy Cooper all began their careers this way. The rise of the postwar comedians coincided with the rise of television and radio, and the traditional music hall circuit suffered greatly as a result. Whereas a music hall performer could work for years using just one act, television exposure created a constant demand for new material, although this may have also been responsible for the cessation of theatrical censorship in 1968.

By the 1970s, music hall entertainment was virtually dead. Alternative circuits had evolved, such as Working Men's Clubs.^[2] Some of the more successful comedians on the Working Men's Club circuit - including Bernard Manning, Bobby Thompson, Frank Carson and Stan Boardman - eventually made their way to television via such shows as The Wheeltappers and Shunters Social Club. The "alternative" comedy scene also began to evolve. Some of the earliest successes came from folk clubs, where performers such as Billy Connolly, Mike Harding and Jasper Carrott started as relatively straight musical acts whose between-song banter developed into complete comedy routines. The 1960s had also seen the satire boom, including the creation of the club, The Establishment, which, amongst other things, gave British audiences their first taste of extreme American stand-up comedy from Lenny Bruce.^[3] Victoria Wood launched her stand-up career in the early 1980s, which saw observational conversation mixed with comedy songs. Wood was to become one of the country's most successful comedians, in 2001 selling out the Royal Albert Hall for 15 nights in a row.

In 1979, the first American-style stand-up comedy club, the Comedy Store, London was opened in London by Peter Rosengard, where many alternative comedy stars of the 1980s, such as Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders, Alexei Sayle, Craig Ferguson, Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson began their careers.^[4] The stand-up comedy circuit rapidly expanded from London across the UK. The present British stand-up comedy circuit arose from the 'alternative' comedy revolution of the 1980s, with political and observational humour being the prominent styles to flourish. In 1983 young drama teacher Maria Kempinska created Jongleurs Comedy Clubs, now the largest Stand Up Comedy chain in Europe.

My 'CRUSH'

Ever u think im a freak people who want got some bully-ing every day?but just let it go,i have my family,bestfriend,friend.. Talk about boyf.I dont have it actually,but i have a crush,his name is *censorship*. I called him 'Kodok',or in english is mean 'Frog'.He's so handsome,and smart but thats not a reason why i like him,if u ask me what can make me feel different to him,i will answer 'i dont know'.Oh God please help me,why he like someone else?not me? if there some clue 'how to get him' i'll follow it.My bestfriend always said 'God keep you from him, because God didn't want to make you disappointed'. I know,i've to move on from him,he's alrady hurt me 'little bit'.especially now i'am already going national exams.No crush anymore..

 Ratu pop dunia asal A merika Serikat Whitney Houston meninggal dunia, Sabtu (11/2/2012). Penyanyi bersuara emas itu meninggal di usianya yang ke-48 tahun setelah kehidupan pribadinya sempat ramai diberitakan akibat keretakan rumah tangganya bersama vokalis Bobby Brown, hingga ketergantungannya terhadap obat-obatan terlarang.

Publisis Kristen Foster mengatakan bahwa pada Sabtu (11/2/2012) waktu AS, Houston telah tutup usia. Belakangan, diketahui, Houston ditemukan tewas di sebuah kamar hotel di Beverly Hills.

Dalam pencapaian kariernya, Houston termasuk salah satu wanita emas dalam industri musik di era 1980 hingga akhir 1990. Houston menjadi salah satu artis paling laris di zamannya. Melalui kemampuan olah vokal yang luar biasa ditambah warna vokal yang khas seorang wanita berkulit hitam, Houston mampu menyihir penonton dan penyuka musiknya. Tak pelak, Houston pun berhasil menjadi salah satu inspirasi para penyanyi generasi muda di bawahnya, seperti Christina Aguilera hingga Mariah Carey.

Tetapi sayang, di ujung kariernya kehidupan Houston justru dirusak oleh obat-obatan terlarang. Ia tak mampu mengendalikan ketergantungannya. Tak heran jika kemudian penjualan albumnya lantas jeblok dan terpaksa dihentikan. Citra Houston semakin terpuruk setelah bersahabat dengan kokain, ganja, dan obat-obatan terlarang yang merusak warna vokal merdunya menjadi kering, serak dan tak dapat lagi menyentuh nada dengan notasi tinggi akibat kondisi tubuhnya tak lagi prima.

"Setan terbesar itu (ada di diri) saya. Saya tak lagi bisa membedakan (narkotika) sebagai sahabat baik saya atau pun musuh terbesar saya," kata Houston yang didampingi suaminya, Brown kepada Diane Sawyer dari ABC dalam wawancara eksklusif pada 2002.

Sebagai superstar dunia yang berhasil menjual albumnya sebanyak 55 juta copy dalam sejarah AS, hal tersebut merupakan peristiwa yang tragis. Houston seakan terlahir untuk menjadi artis besar. Ia adalah seorang putri dari penyanyi rohani Cissy Houston, sekaligus keponakan dari diva era 1960-an Dionne Warwick, dan cicit dari Aretha Franklin.

Houston mengawali kariernya sebagai penyanyi gereja ketika masih kanak-kanak. Saat beranjak remaja, Houston ikut menjadi penyanyi latar Chaka Khan, Jermaine Jackson, hingga Clive Davis.

"Pertama kali saya melihatnya bernyanyi adalah pada saat konser ibunya di sebuah klub. Kemampuan bernyanyi Houston sungguh mengejutkanku," kata Davis kepada "Good Morning America".

Ada apa dengan rumah saya? Part 1

     Yayaya...sekarang saya mau cerita sedikit tentang rumah saya yang masih diombang ambing tanda tanya '?'
kenapa? soalnya ekitar 1 bulan lalu ada kejadian aneh yang mungkin pernah dialami oleh kalian semua.. soalnya waktu itu nenek aku (mertua adik nya mamah) datang dari Ternate ke Bandung,yaa awalnya sih biasa aja,dan aku nya belum cukup akrab sama nenek.Terus pas lagi ngumpul diruang keluarga,nenek ngomong sama mamah,katanya sih ada yang gaberes sama rumah ini 'balagasinetrondewa'.. Nenek bilang,di rumah ini ada 2 penghuni lagi,sebenernya kita semua yang disini udh tau akan asal usul rumah ini.Dulu ortu aku beli nya masih tanah,didaerah komplek di cisaranten..Tapi yang bikin ga beres adalah 'ADA DUA' setau mama,papa,aku,dan keluarga cuman 'SATU'.. Nenek bilang pas nenek lagi di ruang keluarga,ada yang noel nenek dari belakang,tiba tiba jengjeeenngg ada sesosok wanita berambut panjang dan berbaju putih,dengan spontan nenek langsung baca bacaan gitu.. Nenek aku tuh orang nya memang bisa liat yang begituan,jadi jangan heran dehh..nenek bilng ada yang berdiri sama yang ngesot,tempat nongkrong nya yaitu di bawah tangga..
     Nahh dari situ aku langsung inget sama ka nadia,ka nadia pernah bilang pas lagi foto foto ka nadia ngeliat komputer bawah tangga goyang goyang gitu,karna ka nadia moto nya pake kamera depan n70,jadi keliatan deh tuh jurig,pas kaya gitu ka nadia langsung liat lagi ke kamera,gajadi senyum kan tuh karna kaget,pas diliat ada yang ngesot tapi cepet ngesot nya,tapi pas diliat ke belakang gaada apa apa,diliat lg ke kamera mah ada,spontan dong pasti kaget,naahh ka nadia langsung ke kamar dan cerita sama nenek(nenek kandung/mama nya mama aku)
     Dan seumur umur sih aku belum pernah liat tuh penampakan,tapi yang selalu di teror tuh om aku,atau yg sering dipanggil 'om us'.Waktu itu om us pernah liat perempuan yang lagi duduk dikursi sambil ngadep ke kamar mama,kebetulan pas itu lagi ada acara sunatan adik di rumah aku,bersamaan ngeliat itu penampakan,adik aku yang kembar(cewe)nangis,om us langsung kaget dan ngeliat lagi kalau penampakan itu udah pindah ke tangga sambil senyum ke om us,om us langsung lari ke kamar dan nelpon mamanya..
Besoknya baru om us cerita kesemua,tapi semua sempet gapercaya,karna om us orang nya suka bercanda,om us sampai sumpah sumpahan kalau ngeliat itu penampakan,nahh pas cerita kan ada sodara tuh yang dari jakarta,ternate dll..Mereka malah mau liat itu penampkan,dan pada tidur di ruang tamu yang kursinya udh dipindahin,dan anak kecil nya juga ikutan lagi -_-.. tapi sayangnya mereka gabisa ngeliaat tuh penampakan..
     Kalau aku sih ngeliat belum(jangan sampai) tapi kalau dibisikin udah,waktu itu aku lg nonton di atas sam ade aku yg kembar(cewe) atau yg sering dipanggil 'kaka'..Waktu itu mamah suruh aku tidur,tapi aku gamau soalnya film nya lagi rame dan tanggung,mama nyuruh berkali kali sampai aku bilang 'iya mamah,bentar lagi kok nanti juga aku tidur' pas gitu mama ga nyuruhaku lagi,selang 5 menit dari itu,aku ngedenger ada yang ngebisikin aku gini 'ayu',dengan spontan aku langsung noleh kebelakang,tapi gaada siap siapa,dia memanggil nama tengah ku,dan suara itu persis sekali di telingaku,jelas,dan lembut,seperti suara wanitamaku liat lagi gaada siapa siapa.aku manggil tante eli(istri om us/adik mamah) tapi gaada yg nyaut,aku manggil mamah dari atas juga gaad yang nyaut,akhirnya aku ngomong gini 'teteh jangan ganggu yaa' dan pas gitu film nya selesai,yaahh langsung tidur aja dehh..
     Alhamdulillah nya aku ga keganggu pas tidur,cuman waktu itu aku prnah ketindihan,kalian tau ketindihan kan? nahhh pas ketindihan aku ngeliat di sebelah aku ada cewe lagi tidur disebelah aku dan dan merapat banget,aku ngeliatnya tuh rambut dia hitam,panjang,terus dikedepanin,baju nya putih..Aku takut banget,mau manggil mamah juga gabisa,tau lah ya kalau ketindihan kaya gimana,aku bacalah surat surat dr Al-Qur'an mulai dari yg aku inget aja di kepala aku saking panik nya..pas gitu aku terbangun,tiba tiba mata ku mulai meram lagi dan aku pun cepat2 terbangun karena takut ketindihan lagi..dan aku cerita ke mamah aku terus mama bilang 'makanya kalau tidur,baca doa dulu' aku pun menjawab 'udah mah,tapi kaann..' haahh yaudah deh aku diem aja akhirnyaa..

Cara Mengatur file di komputer

Ketika anda mulai aktif bermain internet,Maka akan banyak sekali aktifitas baik itu mendownload atau meng upload. Jika anda tidak mengatur file-file yang telah anda download maka anda akan pusing tujuh keliling.Ingin mencari suatu file yang pernah anda download susahnya minta ampun ,karena anda lupa dimana tempat menaruh atau menyimpannya.

Oleh karena itu sebelum hal itu terjadi,maka sebaiknya aturlah yang rapi file -file itu.Kelompokkan berdasarkan jenis yang sama .Misalnya: file gambar/image, file untuk artikel, file hasil donwnload,file untuk upload,file MS excel,file MS word, dlsb.

Sebagian dari anda mungkin sudah jago dalam hal ini.Tapi banyak jugayang biasanya tak memperdulikan atau menganggap remeh pada masalah ini.Nanti baru akan terasa jika aktifitas online anda semakin tinggi.Oleh sebab itu segera Atur (Manage) file anda sekarang..! Jangan tunda sebelum masalah muncul...

Baiklah..saya anggap anda mau mendengarkan saran saya.Untuk tahap awal ,sebaiknya susunlah file folder seperti contoh yang saya sebutkan tadi.Jika anda ingin membuat file baru, caranya sbb :

1. Buka windows explorer anda.(Lihat gambar cara membuka windows explorer)

2. Pilih dimana anda akan membuat file folder baru: Misalnya di Drive C atau di Drive D.

3. Tekan salah satu drive itu (drive C atau D atau drive lain (E,F,G dll) yg ada di hardisk anda )

4. Lalu pada bidang kosong yang di sebelah kanan , klik kanan mouse anda

5. lalu pilih "New Folder".

Akan muncul folder baru yang bisa anda namai sesuka anda . Dari folder baru yang anda buat itu, anda bisa membuat file turunan lagi. Misalnya anda membuat folder baru dengan nama : " Gambar saya " nah di dalam folder " Gambar saya" ini bisa anda buat lagi file baru misalnya " Gambar dari web".Nah di file " Gambar dari web" ini pun bisa lagi anda bikin file didalamnya : Misalnya " Photo pribadiku " dan file " Photo keluarga " dlsb.Secara struktur akan nampak sbb :

• Folder utama: "Gambar saya"-->" Gambar dari web"-->" Photo pribadiku "

Jika pengaturan file sudah anda tata rapi,nanti jika anda ingin mengambil atau melihat lagi file anda itu, anda tentu akan mudah mengingatnya.Misal untuk file gambar tinggal anda cari di folder "Gambar saya:" untuk File Artikel misalnya anda cari di "Artikel saya " dll.
